SALAM

SALAM - HIV/STI prevention for and with migrants

SALAM means community-based prevention work with the aim of breaking down existing access barriers and providing qualitative educational work.

The word "Salam" comes from Arabic and is used as a greeting. In the context of the project, the name SALAM stands for sexuality, acceptance, love, otherness and migration.

Peers trained by Aidshilfe Baden-Württemberg with their own migration experience conduct information and prevention events on sexuality and health for refugees and migrants. Multipliers with their own migration experience are capable of communicating the topics in a more culturally sensitive way without language and cultural barriers.

The events can be aimed specifically at one or more migrant communities and, depending on the setting, also at people in certain life situations. These include young women, pregnant women, young people in integration classes, residents of a shared accommodation or LGBTTIQ refugees.

These events primarily focus on:

  • Sexually transmitted infections and HIV/AIDS
  • Health and disease
  • Gender and sexuality
  • Contraception and pregnancy
  • IIntercultural sensitisation/anti-discrimination
  • Sexual diversity

The events are usually gender-segregated, free of charge and take place in a protected setting.

If you are interested in such an event, please contact us.

As HIV/STI prevention for and with migrants will be further intensified and expanded as part of the Baden-Württemberg AIDS services, we are constantly looking for new peers. We will be happy to answer any questions you may have.
